I have been a cookie fanatic since before I could even walk. My grandmother placed a rolling pin in my hand faster than I could blink, and I thank her for it today. Oh, but there is one day I will never forget...
the day I had my first chocolate chip cookie.
I remember it like it was just yesterday. I was still in primary school, and someone had made a batch for show and tell. Now, I don't know whether my crazy obsession for the cookie came from my having a massive crush on this person, or if it is as a result of his mother's fine baking skills, all I know is that I fell in love, not with the boy, but with the biscuit.
After that, i tried (and horribly failed) at trying to reproduce those cookies. Google didn't help my efforts either, although, if i'm honest, a measuring cup wasn't really a friend of mine back then. My efforts came back in the form of hard cookies, way-too-salty cookies, and the occasional burnt cookies.
I had sworn off all forms of baking. "I'll just stick to cooking" I said naively...my 12 year old heart slightly bruised, however, that wouldn't deter me...I was determined.
now, a few (well, more than a few) years later, i have finally mastered the beautiful art that is chocolate chip cookies.
listen, I could finish a dozen in one sitting, and I wouldn't even feel guilty about it. They have a crunchy exterior, a soft, pillow-y inside, and the mix of milk and dark chocolate pieces (my favorite combination) is enough to give me the occasional heart palpitation every now and then.
behold...my very first love:
